WEB SITE DESIGN

Web site design is a complex topic and can include issues of site architecture, hosting issues, database creation and administration and a variety of other topics.

At its most basic, web site design involves the creation of "flat" HTML pages that are uploaded to a web server. This method is the simplist to implement, but is only valid for the smallest of sites, where each page is coded and maintained "by hand".

A currently popular method for web site design is the ContentManagementSystem. Implementing this type of site can be as simple as uploading the CMS software to your server, creating a database, connecting the two and then beginning to create content by logging into the software as the administrator. This type of site design has many benefits, including that many CMSs are OpenSource (free), sites can be modified with little or no knowledge of HTML, etc.

A list of free ContentManagementSystems designed in PHP (scripting language) and MySQL (database) can be found here.
