CONTENT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM INSTALLATION

The purpose of this page is to walk you through the basic setup of a Content Management System on a LAMP (LiNUX, ApACHE, MySQL and PhP) server.

1. CMS Download to your PC

First you want to find and download the Content Management System of your choice from the software provider site to your desktop PC. There are WAY too many CMSs for them to be all discussed - or even mentioned - here. You can find a list of LAMP suitable CMSs at this site. These installation instructions are written for CMS Made Simple.

Go to the downloads page, currently http://cmsmadesimple.org/downloads, and download the latest package, currently cmsmadesimple-1.1.3.1.tar.gz. Note that you can download EITHER the .tar.gz file OR the .zip file. These are just different ways to compress the file (if you use Windoze, uh Windows, you probably should download the .zip file).

2. OK! You have the zipped file sitting on your PC. Now what?

You will need to either use an FTP program to upload the zipped CMS file to your server, or log into your site Control Panel and upload the zipped CMS file through a browser interface. Once you have successfully uploaded the file in the public_html folder (or its equivalent on your server), you unzip the file. Once this is done, you have a file in your public_html directory called "CMSMadeSimple" . . .
